Jewish and Christian groups have condemned the Anglican Synod’s vote for a motion that called Israel “colonialist” and “racist”, while repeating the disproven accusation of ‘genocide’ in Gaza.

The Church of England General Synod has faced a backlash for approving the “Kairos Palestine II” document, which accuses Israel of atrocities and appears to justify the 7 October 2023 attacks. The Church’s Ministry among Jewish people (CMJ) warned that the motion, titled ‘A Moment of Truth: Faith in a time of Genocide’ ignored diverse Christian perspectives by isolating Palestinian viewpoints and neglecting the voices of Jewish believers.
Rev Aaron Eime, CMJ General Director, with support from the mission’s trustees, wrote: “Many Anglicans affirm God’s continuing purposes for the Jewish people while equally supporting justice, dignity and security for Palestinians. However, while the document may purport to seek peace, instead, it sows division and furthers hatred”.
